This project started with Caroline, who loves dress-up, make-up, and costume jewelry. Dressed in princess gowns, she and her cousin Sofia found a stash of gem stickers and began sticking them to their ears as improvised earrings. That playful sparkly idea became the basis for this cuff design.

Supplies needed:

Begin by arranging the gem stickers on the felt. Follow a gentle curve that matches the contour of the ear and place the largest gems toward the bottom so the piece reads visually from top to bottom. Once you’re happy with the layout, secure adjacent gems to each other with a thin line of E-6000, careful not to use so much that it squeezes out around the gems. Allow the adhesive to cure fully according to the manufacturer’s instructions, then trim away excess felt, leaving just enough for structural support if needed.

Attach a flat earring back to the bottom gem with a small dab of hot glue. The flat back provides a stable anchor and is easier to position on the ear than a traditional metal cuff. During the trial process we found that purchased metal cuffs were difficult to align and didn’t hold the piece in the desired position, so the flat backing is the simpler, more reliable option.

How to Make an Ear Cuff

If you notice any drooping once the cuff is worn, a small stabilizer on the back can help keep the piece in place. Add a slim fabric or silicone stabilizer behind the gems or a wider flat backing to distribute weight and maintain the intended angle on the ear. This simple adjustment keeps your ear cuff secure and comfortable for longer wear.

Tips: choose high-quality dimensional stickers for a professional look, work on a clean flat surface to prevent glue fingerprints, and test placement on your ear before the adhesive fully cures. With a little patience and care, this quick project yields a charming, unique accessory that’s easy to customize and fun to wear.
