When December arrives, one thing is always on our minds: Christmas cookies. Some recipes become annual staples, others are nostalgic favorites, and a few barely survive the holiday platter. In this episode we talk about the cookies we love, the ones we tolerate, and the ones we’d happily skip.

For many, Christmas cookies are a symbol of the season. Baking together, preserving family traditions, and sharing sweet treats with friends and neighbors create warmth and joy. But not every cookie earns a permanent spot on the holiday tray—some bring fond memories, while others inspire polite refusals.

Keep or Toss, Christmas Cookie Edition

In this episode, Tara and I walk through our most beloved cookie recipes and the memories they evoke. We reminisce about treats that show up year after year and the small rituals that make them special. We also admit to a few cookie choices we don’t particularly enjoy and explain why they miss the mark for us.

Highlights include classic Italian and European cookies, such as sesame-covered reginelle, delicate linzer cookies filled with raspberry jam, and the comforting black and white cookie. We discuss what makes each cookie memorable—texture, aroma, tradition—and which ones we would rather pass on.

Which cookies make your holiday list? Do you have family recipes passed down through generations, or do you lean toward new favourites you discovered more recently? We’d love to hear your picks and the stories behind them.
