Greek Salad with Creamy Greek Yogurt Dressing: Fresh Mediterranean Recipe

Greek salad with a creamy Greek yogurt dressing and classic Mediterranean toppings — tomatoes, red onion, avocado, cucumber, feta, and black olives. To make it a main course, add grilled chicken or chickpeas for protein.

The first recipe I published on this blog was for a Greek salad with a Greek yogurt dressing. Greek salads are my favorite, and even though that original post was short and the photography was rough, the salad itself was always delicious. I wanted to update the photos and expand the post so the recipe gets the presentation it deserves.

Back then I photographed the salad under harsh kitchen lights on a plastic plate and I hadn’t learned much about food photography. Since then I’ve picked up a few basics — natural light, cleaner backgrounds, and a bit more attention to composition — and those small changes make a big difference. Because I still make this salad often, a redo felt overdue.

The ingredients are what you expect in a Greek salad, with one personal addition: avocado. I don’t see it on many restaurant Greek salads, but avocado pairs nicely with Mediterranean flavors and adds a creamy texture.

The dressing is my favorite part. It’s simple and wholesome, with no added sugar: Greek yogurt, olive oil, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic, and a few dried herbs and seasonings. Like many oil-based dressings it separates as it sits, so store it in a jar you can shake or stir before serving. It keeps well in the fridge for up to a week.

At home we often eat this salad as the main dish. My dad grills lemon-rosemary chicken to top it when we want extra protein. When I make it for myself I commonly add chickpeas — they’re an easy, satisfying vegetarian option and work well with the salad’s flavors. Either way, it’s fresh, filling, and versatile.
