The perfect game day appetizer, snack, or even a casual meal — quick, easy, and crowd-pleasing.
This simple recipe uses just five ingredients: French bread, ground beef, sloppy joe sauce, shredded cheese, and diced onion. Assemble, bake, slice, and enjoy — it disappears fast!
It’s ideal for hungry crowds, so I often make it for football parties, family gatherings, or any get-together where meat-and-cheese lovers are present. It also makes a comforting Sunday snack at home that both kids and adults enjoy.
Meaty, cheesy, and irresistibly easy.
Start by dicing the onion and sautéing it in a bit of butter or oil until soft. Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink, breaking it up as you go. Drain excess grease, then stir in the sloppy joe sauce to coat the meat.
Slice the French bread lengthwise and place the halves on a lined baking sheet. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the bread, top with shredded cheddar, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10–15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the bread edges are toasty. Let cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve.
The classic Manwich-style sloppy joe sauce gives this topping a sweet-and-savory balance with a hint of tang that pairs perfectly with the beef and cheese.
These sloppy joe French bread slices are hard to resist — be prepared to eat more than your fair share!
