DIY Burlap and Wood Believe Sign: Rustic Home Decor Project

Hi Friends,

It’s been raining here for the past few days. The weather has been great for baking and creating, but not ideal for taking photos. I’ve been working on DIY Christmas signs and finally finished one yesterday. I must have taken hundreds of pictures trying to get a good shot, but at last I managed a decent photo. I’ve wanted a sign that says “believe” for a while, and now I have one.

My version is a little different. I wanted a wooden sign combined with some red burlap I recently bought. I almost made a wall hanging entirely from burlap, but I love working with wood, so I went with a wooden board. I started with a 1 x 6 piece of wood about 39 inches long.

I wanted a bit of color, so I gave the board a rough coat of white paint. Then I cut the burlap to fit the board, leaving some space at both ends so a bit of the painted wood would show. The exposed wood gives the sign a rustic look and frames the burlap nicely.

Before Thanksgiving I bought some white glitter letters that I thought would contrast nicely with the red burlap. The glitter adds a touch of glamour to the rustic base — a “rustic glam” combination I really enjoy. Attaching the letters was simple: just glue them onto the burlap and press until secure.

And that’s it. The project itself was straightforward; the real challenge was finding a moment of good light to photograph it. I finally took the sign outside during a brief break in the clouds to capture a clearer image.

I planned to show the sign mounted above our couch, but the room is rather dark right now. This photo is the best representation I could get for the moment.

Someone else doesn’t mind the dreary weather — he thinks this is the perfect spot for a nap. It’s nice to have a cozy corner where both decor and pets feel at home.

Thanks so much for reading!
