Carajillo is a warm, coffee-based drink that originated in Spain and has become especially popular in Colombia.

What is Carajillo?
Carajillo is a simple, comforting hot coffee drink usually prepared with espresso or strong brewed coffee and a splash of brandy or rum. Served in a small cup, it’s a popular choice to finish a meal. While many Colombians start the day with plain black coffee, the carajillo is often enjoyed later as a cozy after-dinner treat.
How to Make Carajillo
- Place sugar in a shallow dish. Moisten the rim of an espresso or shot cup with a damp paper towel, then dip the rim into the sugar to coat it.
- Pour hot coffee into the prepared cup, add sugar to taste, then add a splash of brandy or rum. Serve immediately.
